If you're new here like I am, and are on the fence about trying NixOS, let me share two recent experiences that convinced me it's worth it.
I started using Nix seriously about three days ago, though I first learned about it 10 months ago from this video by NoBoilerplate. Since then, I've faced two situations that could have been disastrous on other Linux distributions but were resolved effortlessly with NixOS.
The first occurred about an hour ago, after I made a bad edit to my configuration.nix file (where you declare your system’s behavior). My video card began generating snow that looked like overheating. Restarting gdm didn’t help, so I rebooted and selected a previous configuration from the boot loader menu. In seconds, my system was back to normal.
The second happened during a momentary power failure in the middle of an upgrade to the unstable channel. On most distros, I’d be panicking about corrupted packages or a broken boot loader. Instead, I simply chose a previous configuration, and in under a minute, I was back in Firefox.
NixOS isn’t perfect. Systemd still gives me the creeps, and the Nix derivation syntax can feel redundant at times. But its ability to recover from potential failures or missteps is unlike anything I’ve experienced since I started using Linux in the mid-1990s.
For context, I’ve navigated corrupted boot loaders, manually configured X Windows when mistakes could fry your hardware, and used ed from FreeBSD maintenance mode to fix broken installs. NixOS potentially means that those nightmares are behind me now, forever.
If you’ve ever hesitated to try NixOS, I urge you to give it a shot. Even if you don't use it for any other reason, it's worth it for that alone.

si esas imágenes no son suficientes para una aplicación en particular, el proyecto también proporciona el generador de imágenes de Endless OS , que permite a los usuarios crear sus propios medios de instalación con las personalizaciones que necesiten. Todas las imágenes de Endless OS se crean utilizando libostree para proporcionar un sistema de archivos raíz inmutable.
